GAVIN AND LEEANNA'S STORY
Although both were clad in cap and gown when Gavin first asked Leeanna out in 2004, they’ve since spent the majority of their two-and-a-half-year relationship hitting the books. After graduation day, Leeanna remained at the University of Toronto to study physical therapy, while Gavin went on to York University to work toward his master’s degree in environmental studies. Despite their gruelling academic schedules, this couple is all smiles when they’re together. They just wish they had more time to focus on each other instead of their school work. Graduation is coming up for this pair and what’s next can be as intimidating as a final exam: The real world. 2’s makeover team thought it was about time these 25-year-old students took their style off-campus, so we whisked them off to Club Med Punta Cana in the beautiful Dominican Republic to give them a new, polished professional look and, while we were at it, a little fun in the sun.

HIS & HER MAKEOVER CONSULTATION
The couple began their makeover with a visit to Earth, a new salon in Toronto. While Gavin waited dutifully in the wings, Leeanna’s first stop was an appointment with aesthetician Audrey Robichaud for a pedicure to get her feet sandal-ready. Leeanna chose a neutral pink tone to coordinate with her new vacation wardrobe.
Next, it was Gavin’s turn to join in on the pampering. Colour technician Stephanie Siesto worked with his natural colour, placing honey-beige highlights around the crown of his head to add depth and dimension.
A nervous Leeanna, who had never dyed her strawberry-blond hair before, was put at ease after her consultation with colour technician Debbie Eng Phillips. Debbie thought a deeper copper shade would best suit Leeanna’s freckled skin tone. She recommended a semi-permanent dye, which will fade slowly into Leeanna’s natural colour without the hassle of root maintenance, followed by a clear glaze to ensure shiny, lustrous locks.
Any lingering fears Leeanna might have had quickly disappeared when she and Gavin were treated to hand massages during their colour application. “No matter who you are or where you come from, you’re always vulnerable when you sit down in that chair,” said salon owner Michael Crispel. Earth works hard to make their clients comfortable throughout their entire salon experience—from the moment they walk in the door until the moment they leave. As the Earth team worked away, the couple kept each other laughing while they relaxed and sipped champagne.
In preparation for his cut, Gavin received a tea tree oil scalp massage as they washed his hair. Michael wanted to refine Gavin’s texture and work with his new highlights to give his hair even more depth. The result was an easy-to-manage look, where the style is built right into the architecture of the cut itself.
For Leeanna, Michael took a structural approach: He framed her face with layers and incorporated a flirtatious fringe. Then it was time for makeup. A quick curl of the lashes and coat of brown waterproof mascara on both top and bottom finished off her eyes. Finally, pink, nude and coral glosses made her lips shine.
