You can’t really preserve the smell that comes from chemicals in the production process, even if you keep your car—and yourself* —meticulously clean, but there are bottles of “new car” scents available at major auto parts departments. In general, the key is to remove, vacuum and/or clean up any offending substance, then let the car air out until dry. An open bag of charcoal or coffee grounds will also help absorb smells.
