Q: Hailey, what’s the deal with female ejaculation? Is it for real? If so, what’s the liquid, and where does it come from?
Female ejaculation is for real. That said, no one has really nailed it down—there are few studies, and they’re often contradictory. But here are the basics: 1. It usually comes courtesy of G-spot stimulation. 2. It comes out of the urethra. 3. It’s probably not urine, but the jury’s out on what it is exactly. 4. It’s perfectly normal.
Q: Hailey, my husband hates having sex while I’m menstruating, but I don’t mind it. In fact, I think it feels even better. Any way to convince him?
For women, increased blood flow to the genitals during menstruation makes sex feel quite nice, and, yes, blood is also a natural lubricant. Men, however, don’t like associating pain with their genitals, and many of them associate blood with pain. I suggest this: Try it with a condom, a dark towel on the bed and a wet tissue at hand—or even better, in the shower. Note as well that you can still get preggers from period sex, so always take precautions.
Q: Hailey, my fiancé insists he doesn’t have any sexual fantasies that he’d like to act out, but I don’t buy that. Should I believe him?
For some, fantasies are just that: fantasies. If he was telling you he had no fantasies at all, I’d be sceptical, but that he doesn’t have any he wants to act out—I do buy that. What is arousing in the brain isn’t always arousing in reality, and it could also be that he’s somewhat embarrassed by what he fantasizes about (Ricky Martin?). I’m all for sharing sexual desires with your partner, but there are just some things people would like to keep to themselves.
Q: Hailey, we find it a little intimidating how many condoms there are to choose from on the market. Which types are best for what?
Latex condoms are good for general use. Some are treated with nonoxynol-9, a spermicide that can further help to prevent pregnancy. Plastic condoms (made from polyurethane) exist for those with allergies to latex. There are also lambskin condoms, which some people like because they say they feel more natural. But because lambskin condoms are porous, they don’t protect against STDs. There are also the bells and whistles: ribs, nubs, lubes, colours and flavours. Using these really just depends on personal preference. Whatever you buy, make sure they’re actual condoms from a trusted manufacturer and not simply novelty items.
Q: Hailey, I really don’t enjoy my wife’s blow jobs, but I don’t know how to tell her without hurting her feelings. Suggestions?
Sexual egos are often the easiest to damage, so please tread lightly. Try to verbally steer her in the right direction. Give her some of your best sexy-voice praise when she’s doing something you enjoy. If she’s doing something you don’t enjoy, give her a subtle suggestion:
“I really love it when you _____.” The key is to encourage her to do something you like, rather than discourage her from doing something you don’t like.
